Climate change adaptation finance, YOFAFA Yaoundé 2023 on the way

From the 16th to 18th of November 2023, Cameroon’s capital city, will host the Inaugural Youth Forum on adaptation finance in Africa.

Organized by the Youth for Adaptation Finance Initiative (YAF), under the theme: Empowering Africa: More than doubling adaptation finance for resilient future, the Inaugural Youth Forum on Adaptation Finance, will bring together more than 150 young leaders from across Africa to Yaoundé.

During this three-day come together, the young leaders alongside other stakeholders will discuss and advocate for increased funding for climate resilience. Mostly at the time when, a report by the Climate Policy Initiative stated that, Africa requires $2.8 trillion between 2020 and 2030 to implement its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

The forum will also produce a youth declaration that will urge the international community to commit to more than doubling adaptation finance in Africa, as well as a common youth position ahead of COP28 (from November 30th to December 12th in Dubai).

It should be noted that YOFAFA YAOUNDÉ 2023, comes 2 months after the African Climate Summit in Nairobi-Kenya failed to meet the high hopes of the youth. « For tangible commitments were lacking », outlined Afanyu Yembe, coordinator of Youth for Adaptation Finance Initiative, in YAF statement at ACS23 (African Climate Summit 2023).

It is therefore obvious, that YOFAFA YAOUNDÉ 2023, will for sure, enable, the young leaders coming from across Africa, amplify their voices and influence the global climate agenda.
